fashion illustrations by Alyaa Kamel

I first came across her illustrations on thetrendreport.ch and fell in love. Whats also very interesting is that she has an egyptian background judging through her Facebook page (thank you google translate) which you should check out now ! I would definitely purchase her art and hang them up on my wall . I always smile when i see her illustrations on my favorite pieces that are at the top of my wish list like the Cambridge satchel or a DANNIJO necklace . And for the french speaking ones out there , check out her website : http://www.alyaakamel.net/

the Maria Grachvogel show experience

The minute my tights went all crazy on me I thought this is a bad day but  reality is I couldn’t have wished for a better day. It was a one day Internship to help backstage at the Maria Grachvogel show at London fashion week . Oh boy , I was overwhelmed , psyched and my brain was dancing . It took place at the Savoy Hotel which is BEAUTIFUL ! I got to know other interns who looked so put together and had this oh I’ve done this a million times before attitude but reality is they are just as psyched as me. Okay so the day went as follows I unloaded champagne boxes from a Limo , Packed the gift bags for the FROWS ,  helped set up all the racks, clothes and models boards , and finally got assigned to a Model which I later on dressed for two different looks . It was so surreal and In my head i was all like Damn yes this could be part of a reality show. I am so lucky to get such an experience and meet so many people from the Industry and I thank god for that and I thank him for giving me strength to stay true to who I am in such a pressuring industry . I was also really lucky to get some pictures in between tasks so here you go !

the embellished cinderella

I am talking oscar de la renta here , a man of legend , who has a very feminine  aesthetic and you can always guess that something beautiful is going to show up on that runway . The colors of the Fall 2012 collections were not all so dull there were lots of pastels and icy colors also the models looked impeccable with all the gorgeous headbands embellished with crystals . You can also see a lot of the 3D thing going on thats slightly more vera wang-y and structured silhouettes  . I wish I could post every single picture of the collection but i guess thats what style.com is for , so yea go get some eye candy now !

Monochrome..Again ?

Can you believe it’s fashion week  already ! It’s crazy how all the Fall 12′ collections are out when we haven’t seen a bit of spring yet. For Fall12′, Im guessing its monochrome all over again. Errrmm.. I am not big on black but I’m big on peplums, fur and leather accents which I’m seeing a lot with Alexander Wang , Prabal Gurung and even DVF. My favorites looks are from Jason Wu (Left) featuring a sleeveless trench coat with a huge fur trim and some leather accents . And my second favorite is Preen (Right) , If you look closely you you’ll see how they play with different fabrics and add a pretty peplum at the bottom which turns what might have been a boring black coat to a really exciting one.

So fashion Week , people get all artsy at a hope of getting shot by a sick fashion blogger . I mean everyone’s dream is to get shot by the Sartorialist and Citizen couture . Needles to say , the best style is usually shot on the streets (not seen on the runway) with all the NY Cabs outside the show tents. Now this is “Monochrome” street style thats utterly cool and worth a look at

Micheal Castello : a project runway favorite

Micheal is definitely my all time favorite in project runway history. His aesthetic is not certainly what i would wear but this is why i love him . For a challenge , he had 6 hours to create a look based on grapefruit flavored gelato .

Grapefruit gelato

From watching Micheal for 2 seasons now , I kind of get how fashion designers bring new ideas to the table and I  was inspired to check out art galleries , food and travel places for sketching ideas. I do not attend fashion school and have 0 drawing skills but I hate having an idea and not documenting so  , I therefore horribly doodle what I want the garment to look like . Back to the point , the dress that was inspired by grapefruit gelato may come off as a literal interpretation of color but its actually not , the movement in the dress was actually inspired by the taste. 5alas Enough , heres the dress (kaftan maybe ? )

Rules of Cool

Super model Erin Wasson is so cool that i allow her to se the rules for cool. She perfectly explained my style aesthetic and fashion my point of view. I love the whole underdressed and not too out there clothing . Ohyes, I do also prefer flats over heels . I am a die hard fan of the “Embrace yourself” theory and expressing who I am through clothing.
